Roland Launches Free 808303.studio, An 808 Drum Machine & 303 Bassline Synth In Your Web Browser

Roland, along with sound artist Yuri Suzuki and the Design Museum in London, has introduced 808303.studio, a free browser-based studio that features emulations of the classic TR-808 Rhythm Composer Drum Machine and the TB-303 Bass Line Synthesizer.

The Design Museum is currently showing Electronic: From Kraftwerk to the Chemical Brothers, an exhibit on the art and design of electronic music.

808303.studio features a step sequencer interface and emulates the sound of the TR-808 and TB-303. The studio lets you jam, record, download your audio and share your recordings via social media.

Here’s an intro from A Guy Called Gerald:

808303.studio is available now as a free browser-based app.

  1. Dear Roland,

    I love your products.
Ok, now with that out of the way, could you please lay off the 808, 909, 303, 606…blah blah blah blah blah stuff already? It is tiresome and kinda becoming a joke of itself.
The JD-Xa is something that should be built upon. The MC-707 goes in a meaningful direction too. Work on those paths because Roland has new legacies to establish.

    Cheers,
    Angelo

    1. No it isn’t, ReBirth was a desktop app – none of that web browser nonsense and had ReWire that made it compatible with most DAW’s.
So what can you do with this toy other than sharing your doodles on social media?
      Rubbish

      1. ha! Leslie, come one. Half of social media is ladies showing their butt, not even a doodle, can you rewire a picture of a butt ? This lets you match sequencers while recording and sounds pleasant. no signup to use it . I say its good internet. Sorry this totally out of the blue free thing wasn’t good enough to use for your next hit single lol

    2. It’s weird that Roland asked Propellerheads to take Rebirth down, but then they come out with this.

Having had a quick play, it’s fun enough for a quick muckabout, but not much more than a google doodle. Some things missing: no tuning knob on the bass and it’s pretty high pitched; weirdly I sometimes managed to put an accent on the bass but I don’t know how I did it; no swing option on the bass as far as I can see.

    3. What do you mean rebirth? I’m still using it! Though it’s a bit of task to get it working on Windows 10. Accept no substitutes, Rebirth forever! 😉

        1. True, I may be mistaken but I think Rebirth2 is public domain software now, and unsupported. You can still get it if you look around the internet. To get it working on Win 7, Win 8, Win10 you have to remove the Windows help file. As it’s a protected file, you need a util such as ERD to delete it. You then replace the help file with the one in the Rebirth zip, and then it works fine. Search on the internet, hobbyists have sites that tell you what to do if you still want to use it.

  2. Funny how people screamed for Roland to bring back the “classics” for years and when they do, because they’re not the “exact format” (although typically enhanced and quite useful functionally) they are are asked to “lay off”. SMH

  3. Yeah nice gimmick. Use it to record off a mobile phone for a laugh or an experiment. It’s not bad considering it runs in a browser even on a cheap phone. I suspect this might be as much about Roland brand recognition and tech heritage for those who aren’t into making electronic music, but fair play to Roland, at least the could be bothered to give us a new toy and to get Gerald Simpson to come out and play! Hey Roland, put step probability on the TR6s and TR8s soon please and we’ll give you an 808 groove to be proud of…….
