German synth maker Schmidt has announced that its ‘no expense spared’ Schmidt Eightvoice Analog Synthesizer is available again.
The synthesizer is physically massive, with a huge, tilting front panel that features dedicated controls for all sound programming functions. It features an eight-voice analog, based on discrete circuits, with individual outputs per voice.
The fourth (25-unit) batch was delayed by issues related to procuring hard-to-source components, which have been resolved. “Now nothing stands in the way of further construction of these unique instruments,” says Product Manager Axel Fischer.
“From a hardware perspective, the new Schmidt Eightvoice Analog Synthesizer is identical to the previous batches, save for the fact that 11 knobs have been changed to a grey colour, making for a more clearly arranged operational layout,” explains Fischer. “It includes the current firmware, which adds an easy-to-use onboard polyphonic step sequencer capable of recording 40 steps with each step made up of up to six notes — designed to be used as a live performance tool, and an arpeggiator.”

The Schmidt Synthesizer is available now. Within the EU (European Union), it is €21,900.00 EUR (including VAT) for one in classic anthracite, while white is priced at €22,900.00 EUR (including VAT), with shipping costs not included.
Outside of the EU it is €18,500.00 EUR (excluding VAT) for one in classic anthracite, while white is priced at €19,300.00 EUR (excluding VAT), with customs and shipping costs not included.

Beautiful. But then, all the unattainable synths are. Oh well, in another 50 years they’ll be an app on someone’s phone – or whatever they come up with between now and then; probably a wrist food synthesizer on a floating house boat anchored somewhere off Boise Idaho coastline as the global water levels rise.

Seriously – they sell these $20,000+ instruments at way beyond most competitors’ prices, and yet can’t source a knob that matches the previous batches’ color? This instrument has quite apparently been built to a price point. This makes me wonder what shortcuts they’ve quite possibly taken inside the chassis?
Some of the knobs were replaced with a different colour intentionally to distinguish the more common access ones…. like filter frequencies, volume(s), etc. It’s a clearer layout. Not sure why you got your panties in a twist about it!
Way out of my price range , but good to see into the future of synthesis architecture .
I imagine there is a lot of great equipment ahead of us and the budget market will benefit from the
Top end machines. This is the first high end synth that seems to be worth the hype.

I like the part where it sounds like a dial-up modem.
It’s a shame that yet again it’s the same kind of shitty, ill-informed, unamusing comments that appear every time the Schmidt is spoken about. It’s a truly incredible synth, unlike any other in many aspects and everything about it, inside and out, is pure quality.
People that drive Fiats don’t complain about Ferrari’s existing… if they have no interest or simply can’t afford one, they simply accept that they’re aimed at a different market. It’s no different here… If you can’t see the worth in a Schmidt then that’s absolutely fine.. but don’t criticise what you don’t know or have no experience of simply because it exists or because it’s not affordable to the average musician.
I wonder about who is using one of these. Every time I see an amazing synth, I keep wondering who is doing a tour-de-force with it. Aside from Carlos and Moog, there isn’t much that comes to mind. One musician, one synth, and lay down the awesome.

Considering that Jupiter 8’s are going for $20k+, the Schmidt is a good value!
