Free Update Brings Moog Model 15 To macOS

Moog Music today released an update to its Model 15 iOS App, adding macOS compatibility.

Free to all current Model 15 iOS App owners, the update makes it the first official desktop soft synthesizer from Moog. And, for one price, you get an app that can run on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Moog Model 15 is a software modular synthesizer, designed to accurately recreate the sounds and workflow of the classic hardware Model 15 modular synthesizer. On Macs running macOS 11 or greater, Model 15 can be used standalone, or as an Audio Unit v3 in your DAW.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

“Each facet of the Moog Model 15 modular synthesizer has been meticulously recreated in this application to ensure the power and transcendent sound quality of each module remains intact.

The character, harmonic complexity, and mystique of the instrument’s modules—from the legendary Moog 921 series oscillators and 904A Low Pass Filter to the coveted 907 Fixed Filter Bank—have been painstakingly preserved as the app continues to add more value for users.”

In addition to macOS compatibility, Moog has created a new expansion pack, free to download for app owners, that offers 80 modular patches, with a range of styles, to demonstrate the range of possibilities of the app.

Seven new built-in tutorials encourage the exploration of modularity, introducing synthesis concepts and scenarios that you would not encounter with hardwired synthesizers.

Pricing and Availability

The Moog Model 15 App is available now for US $29.99. If you already own the Model 15 App on your iOS device, no additional purchase or upgrade is required to use the app on your Apple Silicon or Intel based Mac laptop or desktop, and it can be downloaded from your previously purchased items.

  1. Nice! Thank you.
Maybe I’m just getting old? I see the excitement over every new or reissue hardware synth lol, and I just don’t care anymore. I still use my Kronos, Jupiter 80, Triton Pro and my Karma but they are being used less and less giving way to my Desktops, and Laptops and my amazingly powerful iPads. Just my $0.02

  2. wow thats pretty sweet! i ran it on an old ipad and was pretty impressed with how great it sounds even doing fm and getting sub bass and whatnot, but now a free macos upgrade version on top of it all, damn!

  3. after all these discussions if softsynths sound analog or not – this thing definitely does. Great that it’s now also available on “real” computers. Would be great if this would also come to the windows platform. Otherwise I will now have to get back to my old macbook from time to time just for the purpose of being able to play this synth.

  4. Make a great app with the polish expected of a desktop app, charge a fair price for it, keep it updated and supported. That’s the way to succeed in the IOS world. janky apps that lose compatibility and are free with many IAP are not a long term revenue driver. Well done to Moog for updating and existing app, and not bringing out Model15 2.0.

  5. Nice….but not so nice. The macOS version won’t run on Mojave. Don’t know why. Is Apple trying to force people to update this way?

    1. Apple added iOS app compatibility in Big Sur. It doesn’t run on Mojave because that version of macOS runs on older hardware that hasn’t been qualified to run well with Big Sur and its features.

  6. Hmm…I own the Model 15 for iOS but haven’t been able to figure out how to get a free upgrade for MacOS yet–even on a Mac running Big Sur. Is there a trick to this or am I missing something?
