PWM Malevolent Synthesizer Review

The latest BoBeats video takes a look at the PWM Malevolent synthesizer, a new patchable minikey analog synthesizer, introduced at Superbooth 2021.

The Malevolent synthesizer is a monosynth that features a pure analog signal path, Eurorack-compatible patchability and a relatively affordable €579.99 price tag.

The signal path is normalized internally, so you can just turn the keyboard on and play. But Malevolent also offers 38 3.5mm patch points, so you can create custom patches and then play them via the keyboard.

Topics covered:

00:00 Intro, Unboxing & Build Quality
02:33 Sound demos
06:17 Walkthrough & Making patches
11:49 a UNIQUE feature!
13:55 the FILTER (and other stuff)
15:51 the NEGATIVE
17:58 the POSITIVE

Check out the video and share your thoughts on the Malevolent synth in the comments!

  1. Reminds me of a mini MS-20 knockoff in parts. A little odd that at the end of the video Bo mentions this in comparison to two synths which cost ~ $170 less. And the video wasn’t exactly a rave either.

    1. I see what you mean. Perhaps they could make an equivalent to the MS-50? You could make a really feature filled synth without trying to get the Korg add on or battle with the hz/V thing.

    1. the differences between this and other synths may seems small to you but for many they are big and important, we all should be glad there are so many options to choose from. best time for analog synths ever!
