Erica Synths Intros EDU DIY VCA

Erica Synths & Moritz Klein have introduced the mki x es.EDU VCA, a simple, but efficient dual VCA for your Eurorack system.

The EDU DIY VCA has DC-coupled inputs, so you can use the VCA both for audio and CV signals. Inputs of the second VCA are normalled to the first one, which lets you split the audio signal to both VCAs, or control both VCAs with a single CV.

A 60-page build manual explains the electronics behind the module and provides step-by-step build instructions.

The mki x es.EDU VCA is one in a series of 9 DIY kits that are designed to let you build a fully-featured modular monosynth: a sequencer, a VCO, a wavefolder, a noise/S&H module, a mixer, a VCF, an Envelope generator, a dual VCA, and an output stereo mixer with a headphone amplifier.

Pricing and Availability

The EDU DIY VCA is available to pre-order for €55.00.

  1. This would be a very cool subscription. Pay up front, and have them sent every month. Also, wasn’t aware of Moritz Klein’s youtube page, but it’s really well done

  2. i like how this company has maintained and also massively expanded the budget DIY stuff

they have a bunch of really fun things with LED and embedded programming too

  3. This EDU line is simply brilliant. On the surface they are a really cheap way to get some bread-and-butter Eurorack modules with a little soldering – but dig a little deeper (i.e. follow the manual) and they are like a complete electronics lab. The manuals (I just looked at the PDFs) are really well-written introductions to basic electronic circuits, they give insight into every design choice, and they’re fun for grown-ups.

You could easily finish these projects and gain enough knowledge to design your own circuits, or modify/troubleshoot the ones you already have.

I plan to buy all of them!
