Free Valhalla Supermassive Reverb Gets Two New Modes

Developer Sean Costello has released Valhalla Supermassive 2.0, a free update to the free über-effect.

Version 2.0 features two new modes that specialize in reverberant echoes – i.e. echoes with some reverb.

Here’s what he has to say about Supermassive 2.0:

ValhallaSupermassive is 2 years old, and to mark the occasion, we’re releasing the 2.0.0 Supermassive update with two new reverb modes, Aquarius and Pisces.

Aquarius and Pisces are both modified feedback delay networks in a topology I’m calling “EchoVerb.” These algorithms have a strong audible echo, which directly corresponds to the displayed Delay time.

By modifying WARP, FEEDBACK, and DENSITY, Aquarius and Pisces can be used for standard delays, delays with reverb mixed in, reverb with a strong pre-delay, or weird and wild echo sounds.

Here’s an example of Aquarius in action:

  1. This VST should be called “ok boomer” since it causes all boomers to flood your comments section with “your synth demo sucks i can’t hear the synth through all that reverb!”

    1. They (we) have a point, though. They (we) have heard lots of reverb, so it’s not compelling as it mayhaps once was. Don’t get them (us) wrong, they (we) love reverb. But it’s a bit like: no matter how delicious the ketchup is, you still probably want to taste those fries.

    2. I don’t know if I’m a boomer, but everything sounds beautiful through Valhalla reverbs. So if you’re demoing a new synth, I wouldn’t mind hearing it dry.

  2. Thanks, Sean and everyone else involved. I lean on this excellent plug a lot, but I encourage you to buy Delay as well, or any of their other tools. Support the freebies! They sound creamy at every turn and I make good use of those simple, direct GUIs, even when I’m having a half brain-dead day.
