Live Buchla Modular Improvised Performance

Chinese synthesist tamiX (Nan Tang) shared this live performance, Farewell to Mike.

Tang makes creative use of a Buchla modular system and has a unique approach to live performance, using a  Multidimensional Kinesthetic Input Port as a keytar to control a 200e Series modular system, and wearing an effects pedal to allow for gestural control.

Here’s what Tang has shared about her rig details:

    1. reminds me of a shoe-gaze performance. i liked some of the sounds as i skimmed through it. for me, it’s way too long for a steaming video format. live it would be very cool, especially with some mushrooms. but sitting here, screwing off before dinner, who wants to stare at a computer screen?

Nothing’s more suspicious than frog’s breath! Until *you* taste it, I won’t swallow a spoonful!

  1. Tbh in terms of creating a live performance with synthesizers/electronics I think this is brilliant. Definitely shoegaze/punk energy. That controller she’s wearing is different enough for it not to fall into the “lame impression of a guitar” territory, imho, unlike a keytar

  2. I love this girl’s performances. Not crazy about dissonance in this clip, but her style is so refreshing compared to the bollocks that gets called popular music. Keep on experimenting.
