A Brief History Of Korg Instruments

The latest video from synthesist Alex Bell is a brief history of Korg and its instruments.

The documentary starts with a look at the origins of Korg as Keio Electronic Laboratories, and their earliest instruments, like the Donca Matic DA-20 drum machine. It follows the company’s growth over the last 60 years, highlighting some of the most interesting and influential instruments in the company’s history.

Video Summary:

In 1963 two young men stepped into a factory next to the Keio railway line in Shinjuku, Japan. Their ambition was to make a new autorhythm machine, but over the next six decades their company would become one of the biggest players in music technology and would help define the sound of music around the world.

  1. Alex Ball (spelled incorrectly up above btw) does great work. I loved this doc he put together. His channel is pretty popular but in case you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favour and check it out.

  2. A lot of my carbon footprint sports Korg logos, but I don’t regret a bit of it. Excellent doc, Alex! I also get good use from your M-Tron Pro sound set.
