Ableton Introduces Note Mobile App For iOS

Ableton has introduced Note, a new iOS app that lets you create can capture musical ideas anywhere, using a selection of Ableton Live’s drum kits, melodic instruments and synth sounds. You can also sample sounds directly with your mobile device and using them with Note’s sampler instruments.

And, if you want to develop your ideas further, you can use Ableton Cloud to sync Note Sets straight to Live’s browser, where you can pick up where you left off.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

“Starting ideas

Begin with a beat – Note features 56 Drum Sampler kits to use on the 16-pad grid. Loose timing can be fixed by quantizing, or nudging individual notes. Additional layers of rhythm can be added, along with beat repetitions using Note Repeat. Sounds can be shaped by changing the parameters or adding effects.

Start with a melody – Music-makers can choose from 261 synth sounds and 36 Melodic Sampler instruments, which can be played polyphonically using the 25- pad grid or the piano roll. Instantly harmonic results can be achieved by setting a key. More layers of harmony can be added by overdubbing, and the sound can be shaped by tweaking parameters or adding effects.

Sample the world – Bespoke drum kits and melodic instruments can be created by recording percussive or tonal sounds into Note’s Drum Sampler and Melodic Sampler. The samples can then be manipulated through cutting, filtering or repitching, and further transformed by adding effects.

Capture improvisations – There’s no need for music-makers to press record before they start playing. By pressing the Capture button after playing something, Note will detect the tempo and length of the phrase and automatically create a loop.

Developing ideas

Create variations – Note features a grid-based Session View layout where users can experiment with different layer combinations and song structures. Loops can be doubled to create variation within clips, and clips can be duplicated to create different versions of ideas. Session View can then be exported as an audio file to listen to and share with friends or collaborators.

Continue in Live – Music-makers can use Ableton Cloud to send their Note Sets directly to Live without ever leaving the app. Sets from Note appear in Live’s browser with all sounds, samples and effects in place and fully editable.”

  1. Interesting, def an app to watch.

If Ableton changes the angle of having Note support a desktop/laptop installation & develops it as an auv3 host with audio recording it might replace AUM + LK + Koala as the guts of my iOS pseudo-DAW.

That’s a long shot, but still worth hoping for.

  2. this is cool i thought. but requires iOS 15 which is a major battery drain on slightly older devices making them useless so i must pass unfortunately. well done apple we love you !

  3. This is really cool, made my first track in minutes and imported it to Ableton without any issues. Ableton took their time, but it was worth the wait.

  4. Instabuy for me. I wish Native Instruments would do a new version of their Maschine app. It’s very good but clunky af. Compared to this one it just looks like something made for the iphone 3gs.
