Hitsville Reverb Chambers Brings ‘Motown Sound’ Reverb To Your DAW

Universal Audio has introduced Hitsville Reverb Chambers, a plug-in emulation of the reverb chambers used by the producers of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, The Supremes, and others.

Hitsville studio’s attic-converted reverb chambers were essential to Motown’s iconic sound. With help from the original engineers who built them, UA has captured the character and ambience of the spaces heard on some of the greatest soul recordings ever made.

“The sound of Motown music lives in all of our heads,” says Bill Putnam Jr., CEO of Universal Audio. “The attic chambers at Hitsville were crucial to the emotion of those classic recordings, and we couldn’t be happier to bring those same inspiring reverb effects to a new generation of music creators.”

Hitsville Reverb Chambers features simple controls, allowing users to quickly dial in classic reverb sounds on vocals and instruments. And with Dynamic Room Modeling technology, users can go deeper by repositioning the chamber mics to explore new sounds beyond the original positions.

Available for Apollo/UAD hardware owners and UAD Spark subscribers, Hitsville Reverb Chambers comes alongside PolyMAX Synthesizer and C-Suite C-Axe Noise Suppressor in UAD software v10.2.

Features:

  • The only reverb chamber emulations officially licensed by the Hitsville U.S.A. studio
  • Dial in rich-sounding ambience on vocals, drums, and more using two distinctly different custom-built chambers
  • Customize your reverbs quickly with simple hi/lo crossover, width, depth, and mix controls
  • Explore new sounds by repositioning Hitsville Reverb Chamber’s mics using UA’s Dynamic Room Modeling
  • Available natively via UAD Spark subscription ($19.99/month) or as a perpetual license ($349) for UA Apollo and UAD Accelerator owners (UAD, AAX, VST, AU)
  • Owners of the perpetual UAD plug-in can download the native version for free

  1. not sure I’m following – is this a proprietary convolution reverb or a space-modelling algorithmic reverb? because if it’s the former…. idk $350 for what is essentially impulse responses seems like a rough deal these days.

    1. And Valhalla Super Massive will sound nothing like this (it’s for MASSIVE reverbs, lol!) and won’t run on Apollo/UAD hardware.

So it’s completely irrelevant. But it does sound good!

  2. this is not your bogstandard IR tech. It’s a proprietary design, combining algorithmic modelling and machine learning. The original Motown engineers did a blind A/B of the real chamber against this plugin, and said it is indistinguishable from the real deal.

Just demo this on drums, you will recognize the sound immediately. Valhalla stuff is good, but it wont give you “that sound”.

This will be a must-buy as soon as it goes on sale (Never buy UA plugins at full retail!)

    1. Bunch of hefty jargon for “they put some mics in a room and recorded it”

You’d be a fool to pay even sale prices for this when there are so many other reverbs out there with ten times the functionality and flexibility for less

  3. I installed the trial version of UAD Spark a few days ago and I was kinda impressed by the sound of this reverb. Sounds a bit like some of my favourite Altiverb impulse responses, but then with a less clean, more vintage/gritty sound to it. I’m also a user of Valhalla reverbs, but the first thing I thought was – ha, this is something I can’t achieve with my Valhalla plugins. Each their own strength, I’d say.

  4. “The original Motown engineers did a blind A/B of the real chamber against this plugin, and said it is indistinguishable from the real deal.”

Don’t you mean deaf tested? They must all be in their 90’s.
