Free App, PaulXStretch, Brings Extreme Audio Time Stretching To iOS

Sonosaurus has introduced PaulXStretch for iOS, a free app that lets you do extreme time stretching of audio, on your iPhone or iPad.

This application and AUv3 plugin is based on the PaulStretch algorithm, originally developed by Nasca Octavian Paul, and specifically the PaulXStretch version from Xenakios. The UI has been updated and adapted for various platforms and screen sizes.

The plugin/application is designed for radical transformation of sounds. It can turn any short audio into an hours-long ambient soundscape.

The AUv3 plugin version has the same capabilities, except you can feed it the live input of your choice (to capture internally for stretching).

It’s available now as a free download. See the developer site for versions for Linux, Mac & Windows. The source code is also available.

  1. I think I first got this in back 2007? Can’t remember but have been using it ever since. So much fun. Was using the beta app version thing prior to this release. Got the app when it came out this week. Cool to see it hang in there over the years and now exist as an app. Anything that lets me mangle, twist and Reed Richards audio is always welcomed.
