Synthesist Lisa Bella Donna On Black Sabbath, Putting Metal Into Your Synth Tone & Getting Started With Synthesis

The latest episode of the Rather Have the Story podcast features a great, in-depth interview with synthesist Lisa Bella Donna.

Bella Donna is probably best known as a Moog guru, but has released a series of albums that make creative use of a huge array of classic and modern electronic instruments.

Host Brian Kehew talks with Bella Donna about their shared love of Black Sabbath and classic metal; favorite synthesists and musicians Joe Zawinul, Stomu Yamashta, Allan Holdsworth, Tony Iommi and others; getting started with synths; classic sequencers and analog gear; using a ARP 2600 to shake various parts of a building; and more.

  1. Black Sabbath had some great keyboardist’s(synthesists)like Don Airey, Geoff Nichols(RIP), Rick & Adam Wakeman and Scott Warren. Not sure what Lisa Bella Donna has to do with any of that but it’s cool that’s she’s a Joe Zawinul fan, so she must have some idea of what she’s doin’ but other than that I don’t see the correlation, except for the fact that she’s a fan of the band like alotta people?! thanx folks

    1. Actually she was involved in prog rock at one time, and progarchives compares her band Eye to Black Sabbath. e.g. search youtube for EYE – Usurper/Restorer.
