AudioKit Pro has released AudioKit Synth One J6, a professional-quality iOS synthesizer that they built as a labor of love.
Here’s what they have to say about it:
“We built Synth One J6 for people who are often left out. Many students and aspiring artists have mobile devices through schools or other programs, but those devices cannot install paid apps. We wanted to change that. With Synth One J6, anyone can explore, learn, and create music right away.
The interface is intuitive and welcoming. Each function has a dedicated slider or knob, making it simple for beginners and deep enough for pros. You’ll find arpeggiators, sequencers, lush reverbs, tape delays, warm choruses, and over 400 inspiring presets created by talented sound designers worldwide.
Built by volunteers who deeply value music education and accessibility, this app ensures everyone, from classrooms to community programs, can start creating music instantly.”
Features:
- Completely free – nothing to buy
- 400+ Presets
- Control it with a MIDI Keyboard, MIDI Learn to map your controls to the app
- FX: Glorious Reverb based on Sean Costello’s code (Valhalla plugins Plug-ins), Analog Tape Delay, Chorus, Crush, and more.
- 3 LFOs, over 60+ possible destinations, almost everything can be modulated. LFOs can even modify other LFOs
- Dual Assignable Touch Pads, manipulate FX in real time
- Classic Arpeggiator & Vintage Style Step Sequencer
- ADSR for Amp & Filter Envelopes
- Works as a Plug-in Instrument in GarageBand and Logic for iPad
They say it’s ‘Awesome, amazing & free’. Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments!

Awesome! Can’t wait to try it
The day Audiokit improves its own framework and enables further synth manipulation options they will conquer the market.
As simple and basic as it is now, it is a great product and overall it’s fun to use. I think themed synths are cool. And the guys at LIVEN are taking this idea to the real tangible world in form of great little themed synths.
Thanks for the story & helping to support music education, Synthtopia!
Cool project!
As long as you keep making cool synths, we’ll keep covering them.
Would love to try it. Too bad I can’t afford apple.
Anything in the last 5 years should work. You can get great deals on outdated and refurbished apple stuff. I have been using the platform for a decade and I always but slightly outdated hardware. You can find 4 year old basic ipads sometimes for $150-$200.
How ironic that after all the talk about “free” and “for those who are left out”, the app runs upon, and is only available via the walled gardens of corporate app stores.
It runs on a platform used by a billion and a half people use.
Were you hoping for a Linux version? lol
EU citizens have been able to install apps from third-party app stores
I’d look up the meaning of irony again, if I was you. Or don’t you think, it’s ironic you moping about a free synth, you won’t use, because capitalism is evil or something.
> don’t you think, it’s ironic you moping about a free synth, you
> won’t use, because capitalism is evil or something.
Your reply makes no sense. Where do I allegedly even mention “capitalism is evil”?
Rather it’s about using a corporate “app store” to release something that extols itself as being “free” and “for people who are often left out”.
App stores are the next step toward the “you will own nothing” future, where everyone gets “free software” via a channel that restricts choice and access, collects and sells personal info about you, and is designed to lock you into using something proprietary and corporate controlled.
