Composer’s Desktop Project (CDP) Features Hundreds Of Free Sound Design Tools

Reader Matt Jackson let us know that the Composer’s Desktop Project (CDP) — a free collection of hundreds of sound design programs — is now available as a plug-in, an Ableton Live Extension, and in your browser.

CDP is a mature, wide-ranging suite of sound-manipulation programs.

The CDP WASM Suite was developed by author & developer Oli Larkin, and is built on WebAssembly (WASM), so it can run with high performance in web browsers, and is also platform-agnostic.

Features:

  • CDP has hundreds of processes covering nearly every aspect of creative sound design.
  • CDP’s emphasis is on transforming existing sounds to create new ones in the tradition of musique concrète.
  • CDP is free software, running on MacOS, Windows and Linux and released under the GNU Lesser General Public License.

Availability:

The CDP WASM Suite is available as a free download, and CDP 8 is available as a free download under an open source license.

  1. am i missing something? i dont see a browser based editor when i click the link, nor do i see any listed downloads for an abelton live extension…. is this summary inaccurate atm?

  2. This news article should be pointing to https://cdp-wasm-suite.github.io – which is a landing page for a new suite of tools that I have built based on a web-assembly (WASM) port of the CDP which lets it run in your browser, and as an Ableton extension.

I’ve asked for the article to be removed so that i can submit a corrected version.

    1. hey, long time fan here – I just wanted to say what a genius idea it was to make it an ableton live extension!!!

For a lot of us I think this is the only way we’re going to use offline tools like this.
