Oddment’s ODD-1 hardware instrument and ODD-1v plug-in combine granular synthesis, real-time audio processing and synchronized looping around a shared microsonic engine.
Oddment’s ODD-1 is a compact hardware instrument designed to capture, transform and layer sound using a granular processing engine. Rather than focusing on conventional oscillator-based synthesis, it uses samples and incoming audio as the raw material for playable sounds, shifting textures and synchronized loops. Its three modes – SYNTH, LIVE and LOOPS – cover instrument building, real-time audio manipulation and hands-free loop capture.
The ODD-1v plug-in brings the same microsonic engine to your DAW. Both versions use four playheads per layer, independent time and pitch manipulation, modulation routing and spatial processing.
The hardware adds a touchscreen, physical controls, audio and MIDI connections, and CV-compatible control inputs, while the plug-in offers a software option to build and transfer patches between the two environments.
Features:
- A shared microsonic engine powers ODD-1 hardware and the odd-1v software instrument.
- Three modes—SYNTH, LIVE and LOOPS—support sound design, real-time audio processing and synchronized looping.
- Two independent layers allow users to combine samples or process one layer through another.
- Each layer has four playheads, each with independent pitch, speed and TIME PATH settings.
- TIME PATH can move through samples forward, backward or in freeze mode, allowing playback speed and pitch to be shaped independently.
- Grain spacing and size help move sounds from smooth, pitched playback to fragmented or rhythmic textures.
- A frequency-selective filter is applied to individual grains, while binaural processing creates stereo spatial cues.
- SYNTH mode builds playable sounds from loaded or recorded samples, with eight or more total voices depending on settings.
- LIVE mode uses a 60-second rolling buffer to turn incoming audio into a playable instrument.
- LOOPS mode records separate loops with independent lengths, speeds and tuning while keeping them synchronized.
- Each layer includes two multimode filters, saturation stages and echo units.
- Modulation sources include envelopes, LFOs, macros, control inputs and MIDI data, including aftertouch and MIDI CC.
- Parameters can be connected to modulation sources directly through the instrument’s patching interface.
- The ODD-1 hardware has a color touchscreen, physical encoders, stereo line input/output, headphone output and USB-C multichannel audio.
- Hardware connectivity includes TRS MIDI, USB MIDI and four control inputs configurable for CV, gate, expression or sustain pedals.
- The hardware includes a 2 GB factory sample library and supports imported WAV, FLAC and MP3 audio.
- odd-1v provides SYNTH, LIVE and LOOPS workflows inside a DAW, with audio processing designed to match the hardware engine.
- ODD-1 includes a license for odd-1v, allowing patches and sound-design work to move between hardware and software.
