New Alesis Andromeda A6 Plugin, Isla Electronics ASYX, Now Available

Isla Electronics ASYX recreates the synthesis architecture and sound of the Alesis Andromeda A6 analog synthesizer – considered to be one of the greatest analog synths ever created – as a software instrument for Windows and macOS.

The instrument models the original’s oscillator and filter circuitry, with two oscillators per voice, dual filters, three LFOs, three multi-stage envelopes, and a configurable modulation system.

ASYX also includes a 16-step sequencer, arpeggiator, 29 digital effects, and more than 1,200 programs. Existing Andromeda owners can import original SysEx programs and banks and exchange patches with compatible hardware.

Features:

  • Oscillators: Two oscillators per voice provide simultaneous waveforms, pulse-width control, sub-oscillators, hard and soft synchronization, and frequency modulation. Noise and ring modulation are also available in the pre-filter mixer.
  • Dual Filters: The synthesis engine models two filter designs associated with the original Andromeda A6: a 12 dB-per-octave multimode filter and a 24 dB-per-octave low-pass filter. The filters support low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and notch responses, with series or parallel routing.
  • Low-Frequency Oscillators: Three LFOs provide six waveforms, with controls for rate, amplitude, offset, phase, duty cycle, polarity, delay, triggering, and clock synchronization.
  • Envelopes: Three seven-stage envelopes include delay, attack, two decay stages, sustain, and two release stages. Nine selectable curves are available for attack, decay, and release stages, alongside looping, velocity response, key tracking, and retrigger controls.
  • Modulation: A configurable modulation system allows users to assign sources and destinations with independent amount and offset controls. Sources include envelopes, LFOs, sample and hold, a tracking generator, MIDI, and performance controllers.
  • Sequencer and Arpeggiator: A 16-step sequencer offers per-step note, velocity, gate, and rest controls. An arpeggiator includes its own grid and configuration options, with settings stored alongside each program.
  • Effects: The instrument includes 29 digital effect algorithms, covering chorus, delay, reverb, and combined effect configurations. Effect selections and parameters are stored with individual programs.
  • Analog Character Controls: Adjustable variation depths provide control over oscillator tuning, tracking and pulse width, filter cutoff and resonance, envelope timing, voice levels, and oscillator drift.
  • Multitimbral Operation: Each plugin instance supports up to 16 parts, allowing users to create keyboard splits and layered sounds. Each part has its own program, MIDI channel, key range, level, and output routing.
  • Preset Library: More than 1,200 programs are included, comprising original factory sounds and artist banks. The library supports searching by name, author, or bank, filtering by category, and saving favorites.
  • Andromeda Patch Compatibility: ASYX can import original Andromeda A6 SysEx programs and banks. Users can also transfer programs and banks between the software and compatible hardware, including sending edited programs back to selected hardware slots.
  • Hardware Integration: With bidirectional MIDI connections, the Andromeda A6’s physical controls can operate ASYX, while supported parameter changes made in the software can be sent back to the hardware.
