Jean Michel Jarre Encouraging Fans To Make Creative Use Of His Music

In this video, Jean Michel Jarre encourages fans to make “fair” creative use of his music.

He doesn’t go into details of what “fair” is, which is unfortunate. I’d like to see more artists, like Jarre, encouraging fans to make videos, remixes and covers using Creative Commons licenses. For new artists, this is easy, but for established artists, they have a morass of licensing rights to figure out.

What’s “fair”? Who knows? What he’s encouraging goes beyond traditional fair use rights.

It sounds like he’s encouraging people to make videos, remixes and covers derived from his work and to release them for non-commercial purposes.

Anyone know if he’s offered any more clear explanation of this anywhere yet?

  1. Well,
the question really is if the musician still has to pay a license fee also Jean Michel is encouraging him to use it.

    Anyways,
I really thank him for this statement and hope somemore musicians will follow him. This really supports the acctual idea of art!
