  1. The new model sounds a little harsher to my ear than the original does, but as we all know, that probably has as much to do with 30+ years of vintage aging than a difference in design between the two. I’m sure in a few decades the mini will sound even better. In the meantime, a little creative compression and eq’ing might help. Looking forward to getting my hands on one of these.

    1. Could also do with the fact the exact same parts may not be available, so what may come close may not have the exact same sound, but come close and who know maybe have a sound that is unique to it.

  2. Having these kinds of side-by-side comparisons is nice but it can a double-edged sword…

I have learned to never trust any comparisons unless I do it myself (meaning taking an audio clip of the “real thing” and trying to get as close to it as I can with the synth I am comparing it to). Even the smallest difference in output volume, EQ, placement in the stereo field, or setting of a variable waveform knob can cause someone to say “sounds harsher” or whatever.

Not that this will happen with Korg’s Odyssey, but I have seen some great synthesizers get a bad rap by judgements posted on forums based on audio clips

  3. I can see it now… Step by step for the purists…

Step One: Listen to video through cell phone speaker
Step Two: Complain it sounds different
Step Three: Still don’t buy it and still doesn’t have an Ody, vintage or new.
