Yamaha has introduced MODX M, a new line of mid-range synthesizers that’s designed to bring the Montage M‘s professional-grade features to a wider audience.
Featuring three sound engines — including AN-X for vintage analog warmth, FM-X for modern digital synthesis, and AWM2 for ultra-realistic instrument sounds — MODX M offers a wide range of tones suitable for every musical style.
Each MODX M model features intuitive performance controls, including eight physical faders, the Montage Super Knob for multi-parameter modulation, and high-resolution control across all interfaces.

MODX M also comes with the free Expanded Softsynth Plugin (E.S.P.) for all registered owners (available early 2026) — a virtual version of MODX M that integrates seamlessly with any Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), enabling musicians to create and edit performances anywhere.
Pricing and Availability:
Yamaha is offering three MODX M models:
- MODX M6 (available soon, MSRP $2,199.00): a 61-key semi-weighted keyboard for synthesists;
- MODX M7 (available soon, MSRP $2,499.00): 76-key semi-weighted keyboard for keyboardists; and
- MODX M8 (available now, MSRP $3,099.00): 88-key graded hammer action keyboard for pianists
This looks like a very compelling purchase for those looking for a lightweight and capable synth both for jobbing gigs as well as creative work. I am curious to see how their new keybed feels; if it’s like a firmer version of what’s in the CK61, that could be cool. For the last few years, I’ve been using a Roland Fantom 07 for the throw n’ go gigs, but this looks to be a better feeling and sounding instrument.
