The latest Resident Advisor video captures a new interview with synth legend Suzanne Ciani.
The interview was held at IMS Ibiza.
Video Summary:
“After establishing herself as one of the first virtuosos of Don Buchla’s modular system in the 1960s, she went on to earn five Grammy nominations, score a Hollywood film, and found her own sound design company—creating iconic commercial soundtracks for Coca-Cola, AT&T, and Atari.
In this RA Exchange, recorded live at IMS Ibiza, Ciani traces her remarkable path to success. She breaks down the working philosophy that got her there: from walking away from opportunities that didn’t align with her vision, to carving out her own lane in a male-dominated industry that refused to make room for her.
Now, just weeks away from turning 80, she discusses life on the road, collaborating with a new generation of electronic musicians, and much more.”
Ciani is the best. Keep going girl !!
Absolute living legend
In what way exactly..?
Sorry but I have never really enjoyed her music. Not my cup of tea I’m afraid…
I was growing up listening to Tangerine Dream and such like and Suzanne Ciani music never fit the bill…
such crucial information
I’m kinda in the same boat, with one very important caveat: her more recent live Buchla quadrophonic improvisations are gobsmackingly amazing. Youtube is your source for some of them.
I prefer her “new age” music like Velocity of Love or Seven Waves, but those Buchla performances are wild.
It’s okay Leslie. You don’t have to like Suzanne Ciani even if most people really love her music here. Even if I’m a fan. No need to be sorry for a matter that doesn’t require forgiveness
Met her around 1984-85 in Amsterdam at that time she was at the height of her commercial(s) career and after talking to her I decided I wanted to have a career in (electronic) music too. Forever great full for her inspiring words back then.
