You can do this yourself with almost any plugin, just give it a manual and a couple presets and tell it to write itself a spec to remember how the files work for next time. Not necessarily gonna generate something insightful but it will work. Not even Roland encrypts their preset files so … shrug?
This type of tool will become ubiquitous in the next couple of years, and no one will even think or care about it being AI-powered.
I really hope that’s not the case. That reads like the tech bro BS that saying something’s inevitable when the future’s not predetermined.
We have the ability to think for ourselves now. If we don’t like something, we should be able to rationalise why.
In my experience with DrumComputer, I think this sucks because this is a completely unnecessary addition to this app. It already had loads of good parameters for adding randomness and variation. If a user to know how to make a new rhythm or whatever with it, this app already has that base covered. Adding AI into the mix is aiding laziness, not adding efficiency or creativity.
It isn’t adding laziness for those who may not be able to interact with it otherwise, i.e., not you. You know what truly sucks? Gatekeeping and the synth community stinks of it.
Calling me a gatekeeper’s nuts my dude. If I’m a gatekeeper then the gate’s off the hinge and the fence is full of holes..
DrumCompter’s an app with a pretty good interface & a surprisingly useful set of sequencing tools before the addition of AI to cut corners. What’s hard to use about it?

Knowledge, ability and talent being a requirement is not “gatekeeping” that’s literally the absolute basic prerequisites for all forms of art (and really the basic prerequisites for doing nearly anything of any interest what so ever) So no, rejecting the concept of prompt generated music is not gatekeeping it’s just having good taste. Gatekeeping is keeping others from the required knowledge or possible opportunities, the knowledge for understanding all forms of synthesis is freely available in books and online and there are a whole slew of free VSTs that are top tier not only for synths but for music creation in general. It has never been easier or more accessible in history to become an actual real musician but it does take a capacity for learning and some amount of natural talent.
But why?
Now you can automate even the fun creative bits! So sit back, relax… that’s all, no further instructions.

I really don’t see the point in this, why make music at all if you’re not actually creating anything? Isn’t the whole point of music gear to enjoy actually creating something new that YOU came up with?
I’ve never understood this argument and it comes up all the time. How far along the chain do you have to go before it’s something YOU created? Can I use a preset on a synth, or do I have to design every patch from scratch? Is sampling ok? What about sampling single drum hits? Am I allowed to use a hardware sampler or DAW, or do I need to code them myself. Can I use a piano? Or do I need to design and build my own instruments?
Do I want to just type prompt and it give me a full track back? Not at all, but I can 100% see a use case for asking it give me a kick that sounds like the one from a track I like. It’s more flexible than a sample as I can tweak it.
because it is a state of mind. It is a philosophy.
„Give me a kick like my Favorite track“ is simply a few layers lazier than actually working for it and learning on the way of how to get to a kick with this sound signature , same as when you learn bongos they sound different than a pro player until you find out why.
Isn`t it ironic wanting to copy a kick of a track which is easy to do already for years not and wishing for it to be even easier and cleaner?
Music has not been about „uncharted never seen before” creations for a long while now.
We are so spoiled with aids in production that what is being lost on the way is the individual. Thats why you have more generic similar sounding music in our times than ever before even though we have the most possibilities and infrastructure in history but forget about it. Lets make it even simpler. Then maybe a little algorithm that takes out all risk in life, Why not. Et voila. An exciting future

People are hating on the DrumComputer Claude extension for all the wrong reasons. It isn’t trying to replace your ears, taste, or drum programming skills – it’s a workflow accelerator that sits on top of an already deep, synthesis-driven drum engine.
