New Gristleizer Plugin, Grizzly, For macOS & Windows

AOFN Audio’s Grizzly is a stereo modulation effect, based on the 1979 Gristleizer circuit, published by David Simpson in Electronics & Music Maker.

It uses an internal LFO with triangle, square, rising saw, and falling saw waveforms to drive a modeled JFET stage in either VCA mode, which modulates the input amplitude, or VCF mode, which modulates a low-pass filter.

The plugin includes adjustable modulation speed, depth, shape, offset, bias, drive, and stereo spread, with free-running or host-synchronized operation.

Features:

  • Modeled JFET stage based on the 1979 Gristleizer circuit
  • VCA mode for amplitude modulation, including tremolo and rhythmic gating effects
  • VCF mode for low-pass filter modulation
  • Internal LFO with triangle, square, rising saw, and falling saw waveforms
  • LFO speed from 0.01 Hz to 30 Hz
  • Host tempo synchronization with note divisions from 1/1 to 1/32
  • Shape control adjusts triangle slope asymmetry and square-wave duty cycle
  • Offset control determines how much of each LFO cycle drives the effect
  • Bias control sets the attenuation floor in VCA mode or base filter brightness in VCF mode
  • Drive provides ?12 to +24 dB of pre-gain into the modulator
  • Spread introduces inter-channel LFO phase offset for stereo movement
  • Output Level control
  • Bypass control for the complete signal chain
