synthesizers and more

This is the last Synthtopia post of 2010. Thank you for all your comments and feedback this year.

I hope that you have a safe and happy New Year’s.

My wish for 2011 is that you’ll keep coming back to Synthtopia and that there will be lots of electronic music news that’s worthy of your attention.

What’s your wish for 2011?

Is there a piece of gear that you’re saving for? An artist that you’ve always wanted to see perform live? A piece of music that you want to complete? Something you’d like to learn?

  1. Happy New Year everyone!

Personally I've seen quite a lot of shows in recent years, so artist I want to see perform live this year is myself!

  2. A Virus TI with 24bit/96Khz rendering, more voices (much more!), reliable high precision endless rotaries with a pot-like full-sweep range, better pedal compatibility, digital outs (not just USB) and more OS bugfixes.

But most of all: An end to minimum advertised prices, which are a menace when it comes to music gear. This should be illegal. I don't know how it's not still considered price fixing. I'm sure everyone has noticed that their favorite "most wanted" gear always sites at practically the same price on every since down to the penny all year round, even when it's supposedly reduced from MSRP.

  3. I want to buy an android pad. and would like to see more music making oriented apps in 2011.
happy new year everybody and may your wishes come true

  4. My main resolution is to put together a good demo CD and playing a live show – one before the other more than likely…
as far as gear goes, lots of things I Want but there are a few things I NEED or HAVE to get this year…
Big task is getting the chip upgrades for my RM1X and doing the delicate surgery to replace them, but my most pressing need is to find a good DJ style mixer with 8+ channels…
I've officially gotten more Synth Modules than I have Channels on the old one and need to move it on up! (to the dang East Side!)

  11. Everyone and their dog is getting an EV-RE-20 it seems. I'm jealous! But this year I'm going to stick with the gear I already have and just make music. I'm aiming for a 9 song album. It's going to be a lot of work, but it will also be a ton of fun. Happy New Year everyone best of luck in the new year!

  12. Happy new year. Remember, this year goes to 11.

That said, I don't make resolutions. As far as things I'd like to see happen… Several years ago I started composing a suite in memory of my deceased grandmother – now also to include my grandfather since his passing this past April. I'd love to finish it, but I've hit writer's block. I'm stalled about 45 seconds into the second movement, though those 45 seconds are fully orchestrated as is the entire 1st movement.

Also, I'd like to figure out how to pull off some of the synth stuff I do in a live setting and start playing some gigs.

Also, also, it would be great if I could find the funds – and a reputable tech nearby – to get my old axes serviced. I have a Rhodes, a Pro-One, and a Moog Rogue, all of which are in dire need of attention from experienced hands. Sadly, the closest tech I've found – at least for the synths – is a four hour drive away. I did replace the key bushings and a busted octave-select pot on the Pro-One myself this year but anything more detailed than that, I'm not confident attempting myself.

    So, yeah… I guess that's my list.

  13. This year I plan to focus on process and action rather than result. Towards the end of the year I'd also like to start involving other people, there being some thresholds I never plan to cross alone…

  14. HNY y'all. I'll be happy to complete another cabinet – possibly two – of my homebrew modular synthesizer. Or find an audience for my live aspirations.

  15. I’m now not positive the place you’re getting your info, however great topic. I needs to spend a while learning more or working out more. Thank you for magnificent info I was in search of this information for my mission.
