The Molecule Synth is a new kind of musical instrument that offers the elemental components of a traditional keyboard synthesizer, but presents them as modules that you can arrange and rearrange! in various combinations.
Each of the hexagonal modules of the Molecule Synth is color-coded to indicate what that piece is and does, and each piece is marked to show how it connects to other pieces. With these building blocks, you choose how to configure your instrument, and, later, you can move the pieces and configure an entirely new instrument.
The Molecule Synth is being developed as a Kickstarter project – but is already fully funded. The Molecule Synth is available starting at $250.

Love the Keytar part 🙂
Reminds me of the Capsela kits I used to play with when I was younger. Now if only there was a motor module and the option to stick on wheels and a propeller.
I’ve always hoped that a more compact, plug-and-play friendly standard for modular synthesis would come along and catch on. I don’t think this is it, but it’s great to see something along those lines.
There’s one idea you could pursue and develop. Many great things were invented because someone wished that there was something or other. Have a go at it. There are many people out there that can help with the technical aspects as well as the design. I’m being serious. There are problems with the existing modular standards (mechnical, electrical, you name it) and perhaps you can be the one to come up with a comprehensive solution. Who knows? The sky’s the limit here.
