Hundreds Of Companies Now Developing Rack Extensions For Propellerhead Reason

Propellerhead has announced that hundreds of companies are now developing instruments, effects and utilities for its new Rack Extension platform.

This is good news for Reason users, who already seen a large variety of Rack Extensions released since the technology’s introduction early this year.

Rack Extensions are fully integrated with Propellerhead’s Reason and Reason Essentials and take full advantage of all of Reason’s features, such as unlimited undo, built-in integrated patch browser, parameter automation and compatibility with hardware controllers.

Rack Extensions are distributed through the Propellerhead Shop. Propellerhead handles payment solutions, hosting, installation, upgrades and registration.

For interested developers, Propellerheads provides a Rack Extension SDK, which includes code examples, graphical assets, automated testing and is fully documented. More info is available on creating Rack Extensions on YouTube and at the Propellerhead site.

  1. With Propellerheads getting a cut on REs I hope they lower the price on Reason. I like the whole concept and setup of Reason, but I can’t see spending $400 plus how ever much REs are. I admit I’m spoiled by Logic’s price point even if it’s unfair to other developers.

I also hope more developers add crossgrade and bundle deals with their VST and AU plugins, since you can’t re-sell REs. I’d be more tempted if I could pay a smaller amount to access what I already use in RE format.
