Make Techno & House rhythms With A Roland TR-909

This video tutorial takes a look at how to make techno and house rhythms with a classic Roland TR-909 drum machine.

via SynthManiaDotCom:

I bought my 909 in the ’90s when it was at the peak of its popularity in Techno, House and Rave music. This old faithful has been to many raves and house parties back in the day, yet, amazingly, still works and more importantly, grooves like a fox on rollerblades.

  1. Is this for real? It’s about 20 years too late and it’s hardly a tutorial, just some guy in a bad checked shirt dicking around with a 909. The rhythms are shit, too.

  2. Knowing that people are paying a lot of cash these days to get one 🙂
If you want you will get these sounds out of any analog synth.
You could also sample this video and chop it 🙂
I don’t have one but I can say that this video sounds better than the tr-909 samples in an roland E-50 I own.
Maybe the tr 909 is compressed or something so that it sounds sharper.

  3. Who are these morons that are paying 2,500 USD for these things? It’s easy as hell to replicate anything this machine does with some samples and even the most rudimentary sequencer- for FREE. I know that it’s fun to use hardware, and Roland-style step sequencing is as gas, but come the F on.
