Samplephonics has released Leeds Town Hall Organ, a multi sampled organ virtual instrument, as a free download.

Here’s a demo of the free instrument in action:

Description:

Within the beatifully decorated town hall of the city of Leeds in England lies this spectacular organ, towering high into the music hall and silencing the sounds of the city with its earth shuddering, rich, harmonic tones.

This project was part of a new chapter for Samplephonics known as Sonas, who will be unveiling some spectacular virtual instruments over the coming year. More on that soon!

We spent some time with organist Dr Simon Lindley who told us all about how the instrument works, it’s history and even a guided tour up in to the inside of the organ itself!

Simon crafted 6 versatile presets for us and we began the painstaking process of sampling this incredible feat of engineering. Over the next few months we spent many evenings in the town hall recording every single note with multiple round robins and over 10 second note recordings to capture the true sonic character of the organ. The repetetive nature of the task actually became quite hypnotic and a strange bond began to form between us, the organ, the building and the very spirit of the city of Leeds.

Everyone involved in the project worked long hours and for free, so we felt that it was only right to give away the fruits of our labour and hope that the spirit of this incredible instrument could spread throughout the world and help people to craft wonderful music that moves people to do good things.

We packaged the sounds up into a custom Kontakt 5 instrument with a lovely photo of the organ in all of it’s splendor, as well as sampler instruments for Kontakt 4, EXS24, Reason NN-XT and Ableton Sampler.

We hope you enjoy making music and spread the word about this wonderful organ so others can too!

Leeds Town Hall Organ is a free downoad at the Samplephonics site.

  1. As someone who has spent many hours on sampling projects, I can appreciate the dedication described above. When you are granted access to an instrument this “majestic” and rare, this is an opportunity not to be taken lightly.

I really appreciate that this is being offered as a free download!

  2. not really interested in typical church organ sounds, but the middle and final sections of the demo show that some really subtle and interesting textures can be achieved using these samples. definitely picking this up, thanks!

  3. Love this sample instrument! There is a error in Preset 1 on note F3 – the sample files play an F and F# together – can you please tell me how to fix that? Otherwise, superb – many thanks!

  4. This is a well-sampled offering. I especially appreciate seeing it in formats other than $#@! Kontakt or Live. I’m committed to Logic and a bit puzzled that more people don’t use it, because its all but complete unto itself, down to having an mp3 converter. OTOH, if a tool grabs you in the right way, then thats the one for you, case closed, no sweat.
I’ll give Samplephonics a deeper look, because this was a classy move. I’m not sure I’d need this set. A pipe organ is a huge additive synthesizer in a sense, so its one of the easiest things to build with a synth. I got to play the real thing a couple of times, so its fairly easy to emulate the core sound of it. Still, there’s something to be said for the various nuances between organs, if you sometimes do things besides blast out a Full Swell section for rock purposes. That’s why I’ll bookmark them for the Sonas line.

  5. OK, I’m stupid. What’s the proper way to install this into Kontakt Player 5 (which files go where), and how do I get rid of it saying DEMO?

  6. Like Randall, I feel a bit stupid. I’ve downloaded the Leeds Town Hall organ software and don’t know what to do with it. Can anyone help?

  7. what software do I need to play the free sample and operating system please to try out the system
    Thank You

  8. Hi ! I need help. I absolutly need this organ !
However, I only have Kontakt 4 and an old 2011 mac .
How can I play with it in Maschine for exemple with a midi keyboard ?
Playing with the .wav doesn’t work as an instrument.
    THANK YOU !

  9. Your website state this is Free Church Organ Virtual Instrument, yet I see an ad to pay for some odd Rakuten. If I do go through with the process of being able to play organ music. What happens then? I will give it a try…since the site does state access is free…and I really like organ music…but I am scared…maybe this is just another advertisement to trick me into paying money. I do not have any of that.I jusy like organ music…and happiness and hope Thomas G. Brown.
