Rob Papen Quad Rack Extension Sneak Preview

Rob Papen has announced Quad, an RE synthesizer for Propellerhead Reason 7.1 or higher. [[ very soon to be released ]]

Quad is the first Rack Extension synthesizer built from the ground up for Reason by the Rob Papen team.

It features two oscillators with a simple arsenal of classic waveforms. The sonic palette is huge though, through the vast modulation possibilities that QUAD has to offer.

The oscillators can be combined through many cross modulation functions – generating a wide range of harmonics. The next steps in the sound sculpting are the Phase Distortion and Wave Shaper. These tools are brought to life by four XY-Pads, which can be moved through an extensive modulation matrix. The movements can be recorded as automation directly into Reason’s sequencer.

QUAD’s oscillators are complemented by two analog modeled filters, an arpeggiator and two effects processors.

Pricing and availability for Rob Papen Quad are to be announced.

  1. I can’t wait to try this one. Nothing else like it exist in Reason. Come on Propellerhead approve it for sale already. I am loving what I see in the RE world. 🙂

  2. The ‘heads must be delighted they’re getting an exclusive RP synth. Curious to know if (a) Props struck a deal with RP to make the RE before VST/AU/whatever, or (b) RP is testing the user reception for this synth as an RE before releasing it for other platforms.

  3. I’m “sorry” that I don’t use Reason, because the FOUR X-Y pads really grab me. Its an excellent approach that’s vastly better than having to bounce between control fields & menus until it becomes fatiguing. I’d love to see a Mac version with a broader wavetable, especially if it would allow me to drop in my own samples, even small ones. That’s the only thing I could put on a Quad Wish List. Rob can turn a square grid into a sideways paint brush. Give this a listen.

  4. Meh. I bought the SubBoomBass RE after seeing it in that “top ten synths” list thing at the back of Future Music but it sure was underwhelming. Not only did it not appear to do anything especially unique it seemed to have some kind of weird aliasing problem giving high little sine sounds in what should otherwise be a bass patch. Maybe that has to do with Reason architecture or SubBoomBass I don’t know, all I know is I will be thinking twice before I buy another Papen synth. The sounds in the demo video really don’t sound very impressive. Maybe they were just cheap about hiring sound designers, I don’t know. I love the idea of people making exclusive REs but this one I’d have to see the price first.

  5. Funny, just the other day I was playing with Predator in Reason, previewing the myriad oscillator waveforms available and trying to figure out if there was a way of morphing the timbre from one waveform to the next … it looks like Quad would give me exactly that.
