The latest loopop video takes a look at the Dave Smith Instruments Prophet Rev2, which is designed – and priced – so that it offers a lot of bang for the buck.
The Rev2 is an updated version of the Prophet ’08, but, as the name suggests, also belongs to a long tradition of ‘Prophet’ synths. It’s available in both 8 and 16 voice versions.
This synth is what the Prophet-6 should have been.
5-Octaves and more voices.
Very impressive instrument.
Yup.
And the Korg Prologue is the same price as the REV2?
Ill take VCOs anyday over DCOs.
What is so much better about VCOs? Why would you “…take VCOs anyday over DCOs.”
No steps when you sweep. A much more fine tunable oscillator so you can get unique finely tuned tones you may never get again. Also VCOs are more susceptible to environmental conditions which adds more fun to the whole experience (to me)
Why – for their unstable / drift property ?
The waveform produced is the same but not the frequency.
Had two Rev 2 16 voices delivered both giving out noticeably louder signal out of right hand output. DSI don’t think it is a fault. I do! Returned! Prophet 6 sounds much nicer and is a much better quality instrument. DSI kindly /accidentally forwarded me an email from another customer of the same store who has the same problem so it’s not an isolated case. If you’re buying a Rev 2 check it out with headphones over the main outputs. Headphone and output B seem unaffected
