Is The Deep Synth ‘The Most Insane Synthesizer Of The Year’?

Oregon-based software engineer Bob Miller, aka kernalbob, shared this video demo of his open source Deep Synth design.

CDM’s Peter Kirn calls the Deep Synth ‘the most insane synthesizer of the year’.

Why? Because it’s a software synth, based on the classic THX ‘Deep Note’ sound signature, that’s designed to run on an open platform retro game console. Not only does it let you recreate the iconic sound using 32 swarming oscillators, but it lets you play melodies with it.

You can read about the creation of the Deep Synth in a five-part series of articles at kernalbob’s github page. The Deep Synth code is available for download. You can find out about the open gaming platform it runs on, 1Bitsy 1UP, at Hackaday.

Check it out – and let us know what you think about Deep Synth!

  1. This is really cool. I tried to recreate the Deep note sound once in caustic using 14 saw synths. I got close but this sounds much more on point.

  2. This thing is excellent. It’s like a melon baller – it does one thing well.

“It’s not your father’s game console. THIS is your father’s game console.” 🙂
