Free Taiko Drums Virtual Instrument

SampleScience has released Taiko Drums, a free virtual instrument for Mac & Windows, featuring the sound of taiko drums.

They say that a synthesizer has been used to create this traditional Japanese instrument in virtual form, and that the resulting sound is “epic and cinematic”.

  1. I would love a Taiko drum module for my rack. they should make a USB controller with huge mallets for this!

      Very cool idea. You could trigger from any surface. Use velocity values if you wanted to trigger different drum sounds. I remember Akira Jimbo was using velocity to trigger different drum sounds years ago, I would think techno has evolved quite a bit since then. I wish Roland still made the TM-6 interfaces.

      1. oooo! that’s even better! I was thinking it needed a drum, but you’re right any surface will do! just some positional sensor to allow position dependent excitation modes. cool stuff alacazam!
