  1. I suppose Blofeld would appear old to a teenager. I remember an apt expression from the Whole Earth Catalog or some such book: There are two kinds of fools. Those who say ‘This is old and therefor good’ and those who say ‘This is new and therefor better’.

    1. Will – thanks for the suggestion!

I added this tag to this article and recent articles in this vein. So, now your suggested link actually works.

  2. “Old,” heh heh… so are all of the popular plug-ins that revisit 50-year-old instruments, then. There are only so many ways of generating sound and 98% of them are already plug-ins or revisited hardware designs.

The Blofeld was one of the earliest wavetable synths that got it right. Its only natural that it became a standard. It obviously has an EDM aroma, but its just plain broad overall. Taking on the software version will put a huge library in your hands. Its a good mainstay.

    1. The Blofeld’s software was already 18 years old when it was released nearly 18 years ago. It’s the Microwave II plus two wavetables from the Q series. The manuals are almost identical. Now that software can live on without the joys of glitchy rotary encoders and unbalanced outputs. I just don’t see a need for third-party or factory presets, when it’s a phenomenal synth to program from scratch if you put the time in to learn from the decades of available information.

    2. Wasn’t microwave xt about 10 years ago before that?

That being said, Blofeld is very cool (and thanks to Jexus for showing its power back in days)
