Hurdy gurdist Rory Scammell shared this intro to the Balfolk Boombox, a custom hurdy gurdy synthesizer that he created in collaboration with Sam Palmer.
The hurdy gurdy is a traditional string instrument that produces sound using a crank, which rubs a rosined wheel against the strings.
Scammell & Palmer’s version features a variety of Eurorack modules, allowing the instrument to play percussion, bass, leads and more.
Here’s a performance video of the Balforlk Boombox in action:

now that’s cool!
Great project, one of the cooler things I’ve seen here in a while.
I’d love to see somebody like this live instead of the usual Eurorack noise improv shows.
looks like a model D and a SpaceFX, idk what does drum sounds though. awesome performance!
Finally something new.
Hey, this is me!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m doing more videos as I work more things out on it, so stay tuned!
