Shut Up & Play: Sounds Of The Gleeman Pentaphonic Synthesizer

Synth Tailor Electronics shared this ‘shut up and play’ style demo of the Gleeman Pentaphonic, a rare polyphonic synth from 1982.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

“There are only around 50 units ever manufactured by the Gleeman Brothers, Al and Bob. Such a truly amazing sounding 5 voice polyphonic synthesizer.

This five voice polyphonic synthesizer sounds very large in such a small package and is a hybrid of both analog/digital. Featuring a 300 note Polyphonic Sequencer, “Presetter” preset control switches, X+Y Joystick Pitch and Mod controller, and 100 programmable presets.”

Video timings:

00:00 – 00:29 INTRO
00:30 – 02:27 Patch 1
02:28 – 06:06 Sequence 1 SLOW
06:07 – 10:41 Sequence 2 FAST
10:42 – 13:25 Patch 2/3/4
13:26 – 18:01 More Presets / Outro Pads

  1. That’s a proper demo. Software synth developers, here’s one for your list of possible Up & Coming projects. It has an interesting voice that straddles a line between digital crispness and analog weight. I wonder how it would sound if expanded to a 2025 level? Splice an EML SynKey to it, make a baby Frankensynth.
