4ms has introduced a major update to MetaModule, a Eurorack module that provides a physical interface to virtual software modules.
Here’s a video overview of what’s new in MetaModule firmware 2.0.
The MetaModule comes with hundreds of built-in modules from 4ms Company, Befaco, HetrickCV, NonlinearCircuits, and Scanner Darkly, plus clones of popular classics such as the Mutable Instruments eurorack modules, fun physical modeling algorithms, and utilities, with the ability to add hundreds more via plugins.
See the MetaModule site for details or to update.
Seems like a VST in a box
Can you patch your VST into your Eurorack rig?
Yes
Yo dawg, I heard you like modular synthesis, so I etc etc
I still don’t see a point in cramming hundreds of VST’s in a small box, with even smaller screen just for the sake of few patching inputs and outputs? As if Eurorack is not already fiddly enough? I don’t mind single digital modules with one function though…but this is too small.
For some: saving space and money. If there are a bunch of hardware modules you sometimes but not often need, you prefer hardware modular to vcvrack, and those modules are available for the metamodule, you just need the metamodule to cover that need instead of buying the individual modules and having them take up a gob of HP.
This is a great update, 4ms are really behind this module. A great alternative to Disting etc,
This lets you put an one (or combination of) 1400 modules in Eurorack hardware with knobs and I/O- very easy to do making little pre-sets combination of modules on your PC then transfer it to your hardware setup (even wirelessly). You can make just about any sequencer, drum machine, synths you can imagen and VCV rack is very easy to use if you already know modular etc
So, any one of 1400 single modules auto mapped to knobs and I/O or a ‘sub modular’ in your modular- I like it!
This is a great concept and i can imagine more companies over time will jump into this beings that VCV rack is so easily portable. I used to use Plogue Bidule and i always thought if they could put that in a box with a bunch on ins/outs it would be neato!
Theres many audio interfaces out there, in eurorack form too that allows this to happen without a dedicated module using an ipad/computer as the workspace for VCV rack. But having a dedicated module makes sense.
I’d like to see a updated XL version that is comprised of a larger screen/knob module with the in/outs being a flexible add-on depending on what you want/need. Maybe even additional breakout modules with sliders/buttons. Because in the world of VCV, you can do a lot with different types of signals including CC, Video etc.
