Initial Audio Intros SourceLab, ‘The Ultimate Audio Sandbox’

Initial Audio has introduced SourceLab, a software plugin for Mac & Windows that they describe as “the ultimate audio sandbox”.

SourceLab features 6 sound sources, each capable of being a Wavetable Oscillator, Sampler, or Loop Slicer. Other features include advanced routing, a 6-layer MIDI sequencer, ‘professional’ effect racks, and a preset browser with tagging.

Features:

  • Hybrid Engine – 6 sound sources – combine wavetable synths, samples and loops in a new intuitive way that redefines creativity. Each source supports 24-voice unison, ztx time-stretch, warp modes, frequency modulation and more.
  • Modulation Suite – 14+ modulators – AHDSRs with legato and sequencer triggering, LFOs with custom shapes and sync options, MSEGs with loop modes and node-based editing. Enables sound design that stands out.
  • Granular Engine – Apply granular synthesis to samples and loops – tweak size, density, pitch (±24 semitones), and randomization options like start position, gain, and direction. For added musicality, the granular engine includes an Arp Mode.
  • MIDI Sequencing – 6-layer sequencer with a master lane and individual routing to each sound source. Trigger drums, synths, and basses independently or in sync – with drag-and-drop MIDI import/export.
  • Effect Racks – 6 racks with compressor, reverb, delay, multiband, and more – route them serially or in parallel with drag-and-drop ordering. Create a master rack for final polish, delivering a pro-grade mix within the plugin.
  • Preset Browser – Advanced tagging system for genres and characteristics – filter by tags, add custom author notes and images, and share effortlessly via drag-and-drop as a single, consolidated file, BPM-synced for maximum portability.

Pricing and Availability:

SourceLab is available now with an intro price of $169 USD (normally $199).

  1. They really used AI video portraits and speech for their walkthrough… if you’re that fcking lazy, I ain’t even going to bother watching it.

    1. We need a new word to describe annoying AI. When an algorithm learns to be annoying from zillions of examples, it’s at another level that needs its own vocabulary.

  2. Its an old movie reference, but how about “HAL-speak?” In “2001: A Space Odyssey,” HAL 9000 went nuts and killed his crew because his programmers didn’t give him the full truth. Its one of the earliest examples of a movie raising that red flag so well. It still holds up.

With AI being used to scrape everything in the world for saleable data in one form or another, it won’t be long before the Internet turns us all into digitally gap-toothed, inbred cousin-f**kers. Coming soon: a t-shirt stating that “HAL-speak ate muh brain, Maw.”

    1. That’s excellent!
I wish AI characters would just be their algorithmic selves, morph into the plugin GUI and let it modulate their faces.
      A lost opportunity!

  3. I was so miffed by the AI presenters that I opened the video on YouTube just to give it a thumbs down and leave a negative comment.
