Check out Bitwig Studio. It’s made by ex-Ableton engineers. I hope they release something like a Push controller in the future 🙂
I’m not sure if they are “ex-Ableton engineers”, it’s a very German thing to offer alternatives, but the money still ends up in the same pocket
Its two different companies that are in no business relationship with each other. They are not owned by the same people. hence nothing ends up in the same pockets.
I’m not sure it’s something that’s easy to know. It can be covered by many layers of ownership.
It doesn’t prove anything but I remember someone I know signed up to be a Bitwig certified trainer just when they started advertising it and got a reply from an Ableton email.
Maybe less so today, but back then it looked suspiciously similar. However, there was never any talk about Intellectual Property. It also covered many of the features Ableton users had been asking for over the years.
You could argue it’s the same creators but Live was so unique looking at that time, and Bitwig looked so similar. IP is not owned by workers.
unsure what you mean exactly with IP.
Look & feel?
that is a very slippery slope
remember apple vs. windows?
the court proceedings went on for years, apple lost in the end
some people left Ableton to make Bitwig.
there dont seem to be any hard feelings between those two companies. live and let live.
/urban myths
The creators of Techno in Detroit also love Ableton Live
You mean Monolake 🙂
Monolake is not from Detroit
Bitwig was founded and developed in Berlin by Claes Johanson, Pablo Sara, Nicholas Allen and Volker Schumacher in 2009.[8] Since 2010, Placidus Schelbert has been the CEO after he left his position as an International Sales Manager at Ableton, in the same year.[9]
I believe all the other people worked at Ableton too… you can literally find their names credited inside the older Ableton user guides/manuals.
I didn’t say it’s the same company
It was a message for UKifi… not you. 😛
Bitwig Studio also runs real nice on Linux
It works properly on Wine, not true linux, even if it’s a decent compatibilty mapping engine…
Bitwig is native linux compilation… very different
Push 3 standalone has a native version of Ableton Live for Linux… there’s a way to use it 😉
everybody and their mother is using Ableton Live, so it made sense for them to make push.
its very risky for a software company to make a bet on hardware.
a step like that could ruin bitwig in no time.
The new Bitwig Connect is their first hardware product, so who knows! https://www.bitwig.com/connect/
I had Bitwig and honestly, the lack of something of a Push caliber was what made me stay with Live. Otherwise, I would choose Bitwig… :]
Ableton are getting better and better, the quality and quantity of their updates is staggering..
The integration with PUSH and Move ant be matched by any other DAW , MAX is unbelievably powerful and can develop commercial VST level stuff (check out FORS) with great GUIs. Never been a better time for Live users.
I only halfy agree, i find it sad that their controllers are focused on session / Clip performance and ignores the Arrangement view users.
Why use live, if the clips do nothing for you?
Did you know that Ableton Live also have Arrangement view?
Max is an IDE for audio stuff.
Its anything but simple to use.
I get a headache from it.
If you have a background in programming it may fit your needs.
that said, plugins made with max are great.
Give Bitwig Grid a try. I like making custom stuff on there!
finally clip follow actions on push!
now this is getting really sexy.
im tempted to buy a push now.
