Wi9th the new firmware, you can use multiple 2-XMs together and get higher polyphony, with per-voice hands-on control:

  • 1× 2-XM = 2 voices
  • 2× 2-XM = 4 voices
  • 3× 2-XM = 6 voices

Other changes in the update include:

  • Fixed a CV calibration restore bug.
  • Added multi-trigger for repeated notes.
  • “MIDI soft thru” is now ON by default.

    1. The point of these older polyphonic approaches is that the interface = the patch.

So there are no presets, but there’s also no encoders or abstraction.

Obviously, the approaches have different pros and cons. The old-school approach sounds awesome, though, because its like having an orchestra made up of different people and instruments vs clones of a single person/instrument.

  1. The Sem and ARP style of tuning is demanding if the user meaning a kit of people won’t see these as a sweet spot. But for those who can hear the differences, it is really nice to have an affordable Sem sound and filter to play with in this format. People hunt down Shurman Filter banks and this is just as good sound-wide because of the right components wired discreetly not pay of a borg circuit board traffic jam.
