fair use

Articles about fair use:

In this video, Jean Michel Jarre encourages fans to make “fair” creative use of his music.

He doesn’t go into details of what “fair” is, which is unfortunate. I’d like to see more artists, like Jarre, encouraging fans to make videos, remixes and covers using Creative Commons licenses. For new artists, this is easy, but for established artists, they have a morass of licensing rights to figure out.

What’s “fair”? Who knows? What he’s encouraging goes beyond traditional fair use rights.

It sounds like he’s encouraging people to make videos, remixes and covers derived from his work and to release them for non-commercial purposes.

Anyone know if he’s offered any more clear explanation of this anywhere yet?
