Forma Labs Audio has introduced Filament, a real-time MIDI orchestration engine for macOS.
Filament hosts and controls up to 64 AU/VST3 instruments inside a single DAW track. It combines instrument hosting, MIDI routing, voice allocation, clips, arpeggiators, keyswitch management, mixer states, and reusable performance setups into a single workflow.
Filament has an automatic chord re-voicing engine that adapts incoming chords into orchestration-aware voicings, while remaining highly configurable for different instrument types and arrangements.
The result is that you can play live, with full orchestral, synth, or percussion setups from a single track. The automatic re-voicing ensures that you have full arrangement, without the ‘chipmunk’ effect of instruments being played outside their ranges.

Looks cool, but what about setup configuration?
It would be great to see this paired with an orchestral library and a ‘synth orchestra’ library.
For example, I’d love to see this set up to work in ‘Vangelis mode’, where you could play expressively and it would create a ‘synth orchestration’ of what you play.

so ehh basically this is a daw within a daw where you play midi from daw 1 (the host ) it get’s rerouted to the daw2 (filament) and within this space it reroutes the midi data to different instruments (and adds some smart midi algo’s and FX) .. perhaps I’m mistaken but this seems ehh odd?
Why not just release it as a single track daw then?
Didn’t old mate do that in the video? But yeah I imagine setting this up would take a bit of effort.
