Audacity 4 is a major rebuild of the free, open-source audio editor, introducing a redesigned interface, new editing workflow, customizable workspaces, rebuilt effects and expanded plug-in support.

Audacity 4 substantially changes the application’s interface and underlying technology while retaining its free, open-source model. The new version introduces a redesigned editing workflow with clip handles, per-track metering, markers and regions, dedicated loop controls, and direct sample editing.

The update also adds customizable workspaces, new interface and clip-color options, redesigned effect windows, native LV2/VST3/AU plug-in support, and integration with MuseHub and audio.com.

Existing Audacity 3 .aup3 projects can be opened directly in Audacity 4.
