Lucie Bigelow Rosen’s Theremin, Built By Leon Theremin (1938)

Thereminist Rob Schwimmer send this story in, about his experiences with a rare vintage theremin, via Synthtopia’s Submit A Story form:

I had the pleasure of playing on Lucie Bigelow Rosen’s theremin this week. It was built by Leon Theremin himself in 1938.

Lucie Bigelow Rosen was not only the founder of the Caramoor Festival in Katonah, NY but a thereminist and Theremin’s main patron while he was in the US.

This theremin was the last he built himself before returning to Russia and included many of her suggestions. She referred to it as the “Sepember Theremin”.

There’s a fair amount about it in Albert Glinsky’s biography Theremin: Ether Music and Espionage. Bob Moog was the last person to do any tech on this one of a kind instrument.

See parts 2 & 3 of Schwimmer’s exploration of the Lucie Bigelow Rosen’s ‘September’ theremin below.
