  1. Looks cool, but I’m way less excited about it now after seeing that it will have to be connected to a giant, separate $50 box to work with my MIDI gear. All that internal ADC and DAC hardware for those lovely CV in/outs and MIDI gets left by the wayside? This could easily have been put on another trrs with a breakout cable rather than a clunky box.

    1. Surely you realize that a MIDI cable is twice as tall as the QuNeo and QuNexus?

And the MIDI Expander is about 3″x1″ — a bit far from “giant”.

      1. ahh… you got me. I had a look, and I guess you’re right! I completely forgot how big those things are. Silly me!
I love it when people comment on what they don’t read. MIDI spec only needs 3 of the 5 pins on the DIN connector, meaning you can easliy use a 1/8 in headphone jack (a trs or trrs connector) for MIDI provided you have a 1/8in to DIN-5 cable… a very easy thing to wire up. One jack each for MIDI in/out (or, really just out even) would have made this a very nice all-in-one controller.
I’m not really sure what the rationale behind leaving something like that off would be… there has to be some digital control on there already, and the extra IC parts to add MIDI would fit inside a dime. (and yeah, the size of that box compared to the parts you would need to go from whatever serial comm. they use to MIDI does indeed make it huge.)
Don’t get me wrong, it looks like a great little controller, and I’m definitely still thinking of picking one up, but there’s a lot less daylight between this and Korg’s nano series without a native MIDI option.
