International Theremin Extravaganza June 28 In NYC

Thorwald Jørgensen, the Dutch thereminist (above), will be one of the performers at The NY Theremin Society’s “International Edition” concert this Friday evening, June 28, in New York City.

The line-up includes performances on Theremin by:

  • Rob Schwimmer (US)

  1. Theremining is fun to write and record with. Definitely not as skilled as this guy, but when your dealing with a bunch of takes its pretty easy and exhilarating to fake that level of playing if your going for that sound. I recommend getting one. Not hitting the exact same pitch can be refreshing in a rather dull recording. Its all about posture, concentration, knowing how to set the controls and only a little practice just to get off to a good start. As long as you don’t get to hung up on hitting an exact pitch and appreciating that distinctive part it can give to a track it can be very gratifying and old-school as hell.

  2. But in many contexts it is in fact hitting that exact pitch… and that takes a lot more than “only a little practice.” Pretty easy? No, unless you’re using it as a sound effect
