Netflix Announces EDM Coming-Of-Age Movie, ‘XOXO’ – But What We Really Wanted Was More Of ‘Stranger Things’

Netflix has released the preview for XOXO – an original EDM-themed film.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

XOXO is a coming-of-age ensemble film about a group of 20-somethings on a crazy adventure to the biggest EDM festival in America, XOXO. The film follows six strangers whose lives collide in one frenetic, dream-chasing, hopelessly romantic night. At the center is Ethan, a young DJ who gets a last minute slot to perform after his tracks go viral online days before the festival. This is a huge opportunity… if he can just make it there in one piece.

XOXO is directed by Christopher Louie and written by Dylan Meyer. Max Leitman, Joe Russell p.g.a., Christopher Louie p.g.a., Pete Tong, and Dan Shafer serve as producers. Pete Tong also serves as Music Supervisor.

  1. I used to watch 90210 and Melrose Place back in the 90s so I can’t really bring myself to be upset that there are corny movies targeted toward the teen-college crowd.

Netflix is doing so many things right these days including creating stuff for all audiences.

    1. I want to like your comment because I sincerely relate, but can’t, so I’m posting this comment, so you know you’re not alone in 1) having watched 90210 and Melrose Place, whatever that’s worth, and 2) thinking Netflix is doing a good job with content, doubly whatever.

  2. at some point will people look back fondly on this like they do ‘beat street’ or ‘breakin 2: electric boogaloo’?

they should have given total creative control to richard d. james and chris cunningham and made it a horror movie

    1. The difference is: Beat Street was produced right near the start of that music and culture. It was all fresh. “Electronica” / rave / house / whatever … all became massive in the late 80s and reached it’s raving peak by ’95 and then turned into a zombie of itself.

I mean sure, there have been developments in the sound, upgrades, but these days Electronica is just like “Country” it’s a well trodden path worn shiny and smooth. Enjoyed by many sure, but. not fresh, dope, or even … boogaloo .

      1. but that Is why breakcore, glitch, even dubstep I appreciate – it is at least moving the ball forward- the ‘EDM’ that most people think of is just watered down trance.

    2. “they should have given total creative control to richard d. james and chris cunningham and made it a horror movie”

      Yes, yes and more yes.

  3. Xoxo doesn’t capture my interest, but the linked Xuxa promo video announcing Stranger Things in Brazil has really got me amped! Xuxaaaaaaaah!!!

  4. Soooooo they are remaking “Go”?

Ill tell you what I want, and that is a sequel to the epic Techno Masterpiece that is Vibrations. #Cyberstorm2016

  5. Anyway, Stranger Things…

Can anyone ID the music during the flashback scene right after the Elegia funeral? When Joyce is talking to Will about his wizard drawing?

  6. Wonderful Subject: line on this article! ‘Cause – if you haven’t seen it – one of the best things about Stranger Things is the soundtrack, which sounds like some kind of “lost recording session” with John Carpenter and Tangerine Dream that’s been locked in a vault somewhere for the past 30 years.. Awesome stuff.

  7. Thanks for the heads up missed ‘Vibrations 1996’ the first time round looks like just my kinda movie. Re XOXO I like watching these cheesy awful movies and sometimes I shed a tear and remember that i’m a 15 year old boy in the body of a 47 year old man 🙂
