MusikMesse 2018: The CHRT synthesizer is a true analog monophonic valve synthesizer.
Here’s an overview and demo, via Sonic State. The CHRT is designed primarily as a sound module for MIDI wind controllers, such as Yamaha WX5 or Akai EWI, but a variation of firmware also lets it be used as a responsive sound module for a keyboard player.
Features:
- ‘natural electric, real synth sound’
- signal path is a pure thermionic valve circuit, digital circuits are used only for things like MIDI to CV
- designed by a saxophonist, to allow for excellent control over dynamics, phrasing, articulation, accents
- utilizes all MIDI data coming from the wind controller
- no hum or noise issues
Pricing and Availability
The CHRT synthesizer is available as a kit for 400 Euro. Assembled options are also available.
This is a beautiful and beautiful-sounding instrument that happens to be electronic.
Wow, a real artisan at the Messe? What a great guy! Humble but building great things. Saxforum may get crazy about him!
The ideas embodied in this thermionic synthesizer make sounds that excite me so.
