Moog Matriarch Synthesizer Promises To Be The Latest Addition To The Family

Moog Music has filed a trademark application for ‘Matriarch‘ – for use with Electronic musical keyboards; Music synthesizers; Musical instruments.

No announcement has been made about the Moog Matriarch yet, but previous trademark applications – like ‘Moog One’ – became public well before the corresponding synth was introduced.

‘Matriarch’ follows in line with their previously ‘family-themed’ synth names, including the Mother-32, Brother From Another Mother & Grandmother.

The Moog Matriarch’s application’s Goods and Services description:

Electronic low pass filters for musical instruments; Electronic ring modulators for musical instruments; Electronic effects units for musical instruments; Sound frequency filters for controlling audio parameters by raising or lowering the gain of specific audio frequencies using a resonant filter; Sound frequency filters for controlling audio parameters by raising or lowering the gain of specific audio frequencies using a low pass filter, band pass filter, resonant filter or using a multiple resonant filter array and animating those frequencies using a built-in pattern generator

    1. I hope Steven is right about the filter array. That would be a better addition to some rigs than the DFAM, for example. The new-Moogerfooger idea sounds right. Its respectable to be a Moog person, but you also make a certain commitment with some Moogly expectations in the mix. Remember the venerable Sherman Filter Bank? A lot of people took it up because it was versatile. A Moog version would be timely. However, I’m still waiting for the $1000 Moog One trickle-down model, the Moog One-Quarter. Then real-world humans can afford it.:P

  1. The trademark filing also specifies that it has a keyboard. I’m thinking it’s going to be a semi-modular monosynth like the rest of the Mother line, but maybe more like an Arp 2600 in form factor.

  2. Does Moog imply with that name that their target customers are beta males? Because they are mostly men for sure and the emancipation of women argument doesn’t work.

  3. They always recycle the MURF trademark application so this description is really not reputable for speculation on the actual product. It could be a cheap poly.
