New Documentary On Herb Deutsch, Co-Inventor Of The Moog Synthesizer

Moog Music has launched a new documentary series, GIANTS, as a platform for pioneering electronic musicians and innovators to express themselves through the art of storytelling.

The initial documentary features Herb Deutsch, the co-inventor of the Moog modular synthesizer, in honor of his 90th birthday. Deutsch collaborated with Bob Moog in the ’60s in creating the original Moog modular system. In the video, Deutsch shares some of his earliest memories of music, “the perfect definition” of what music is and can be: sound organized in time; working with Moog in developing Moog’s early modular systems; and debuting the new instrument in live performance.

Future documentaries in the series will feature early modular synthesizer adopter Bernie Krause, modular synthesis legend Suzanne Ciani, and Mute Records founder Daniel Miller.
