Synthesist and sound designer Ian Dixon has released another in his series of free sound libraries, Atmospheric Vocals for the Korg Modwave line of synthesizers.
Dixon’s sound libraries consistently do a great job of providing useful patches, while simultaneously highlighting the sonic capabilities of the instruments.
Atmospheric Vocals features 50 performances and programs, including atmospheric choirs, synthesized vocal sounds, and immersive soundscapes. You’ll find inspirations from classic Mellotron, Vangelis, and Wavestation sounds.
The library is compatible with all the Modwave synths, including the OG Korg Modwave, Modwave mkII, Modwave Rack, and Modwave Native.

KORG Produces the best production equipment for Djays and producers that have just acted their journeys.
Ian, you do top-notch work. The set is a real beauty. I love this line of Korgs. Some people tromp on their imagined lacks, but in truth, they’re quite potent. If you take on a few sets from 3rd-party sources, there isn’t much left that they can’t cover. We all like to mix-&-match instruments, but this corner of the synth universe is extra impressive.
Releasing module and software versions is one of the smarter things Korg has done. I look forward to a soft version of the Multi/Poly, which can be one hell of a centerpiece. It fights well above its seeming weight class.
It is amazing how the community is creating and improving both the Modwave and Wavestate with this kind of libraries, that in my opinion, sound much better than the original presets and showcase the real potential of the machine.
It is a pity though that the FX section is severely underpowered and sonically very poor, making compulsory the use of an external FX section, be it pedals, multieffects or your favourite DAW.
I agree that sound libraries like Dixon’s show off the modwave and wavestate better than the synths presets.
Why do you think the FX section is underpowered? I’ve got the wavestate and have been pretty impressed with both its synthesis capabilities and the effects section. I’d like to have a shimmer reverb built in, and I like the way my Prologue lets me load up custom effects. But I can’t really fault the modwave’s effects. Compared to what Elektron provides on its synths, at least, the wavestate effects seem pretty good!
