Waves Audio Illugen Uses AI To Create Original Loops & Samples Based On Your Text Prompts

Waves Audio today introduced Illugen, an AI-powered desktop app that synthesizes one-shot, loop and sfx samples based on your text prompts.

Here’s how it works:

  • Enter a text prompt, like you are searching for a sound;
  • Select one-shots, loops, or SFX;
  • Illugen will directly synthesize an original sample;
  • Drag and drop the sample to your DAW.

Illugen outputs standard 16-bit, 44.1kHz WAV files.

Check out the intro video, embedded above, for a preview of how it works.

Pricing and Availability:

Illugen is available now via a subscription model, with basic service starting at $7.99/month.

  1. Illugen, please recreate the Michael Jackson Thriller album in a non-copyright violation way and publish it directly to my Spotify…. and make it pronto!

  2. This is not even a subscription as i can see it. It’s a subscription with limits. You get a specific number of credits, i am guessing a prompt is a credit and if you finish those within the month you need to top up. Unused credits roll over to the next month. Anyway i am guessing Illugen is sample based, no? Any idea how much drive space does it need? P.s that blob showing up in the video is quite reminiscent of Forever89’s Visco plugin….

    1. “AI is theft.”

      It’s just a tool.

      How is this any different than loop libraries with ‘sound alike’ loops, or presets that imitate well-known patches?

  3. They should tell their customers where they got the training data. They probably stole it from their own customers.

  4. Maybe building a UI on top of Stable Audio, or ideas from there? Also: Check out Melisma, converts musicxml to audio, training data is fully explained.

  5. They need to add auto-normalization to the samples—some are barely audible, sound too mono and narrow, and don’t really follow the prompts. Overall, the output feels unconnected to the prompts and low-quality compared to Udio AI models

    Plus
    Not able to use plugin without subscription is a dirt tactic

      They should at least let you try before you buy. I couldn’t find a way to test drive this when I checked the site.

  6. Who the f… searches for a sound in their library the same way they type a prompt?

    This is already more work than regular searching

    Other than typing the first few letters of the plug-in or snare or kick or whatever

    If this is how you aspire to make music you are probably bad at it anyways
